Frequently Asked Questions

What is diy gift registry?
diy gift registry puts a modern twist on the traditional gift registry which has been so popular over the years.  The problem with the traditional gift registry in the 21st century is that the items offered by large department stores aren’t necessarily what the modern day couple want to receive as gifts.  At diy gift registry, hosts compile their own gift wish list, filled with gifts they actually want to receive.  As diy gift registry doesn’t sell any gifts there are no restrictions - any gift from any store can be included!  For further information, please refer to ‘How does diy gift registry work for hosts?’’

How does diy gift registry differ from the traditional gift registry?
Traditionally, gift registrys have been restricted to the one store, which meant that the host could only choose gifts that were sold by this particular store.  diy gift registry is a gift registry with a difference.  At diy gift registry, we don’t sell any gifts – it is simply a forum in which hosts can list a range of gifts they would like to receive from their guests.  As with traditional gift registry’s, guests are still required to go to the relevant store and purchase the gift, which they then bring along to the function.  But the beauty with diy gift registry is that because you aren’t restricted to the one store, you can receive a broad range of gifts from a variety of stores.

Why have a diy gift registry?
For the host, having a diy gift registry aims to prevent you from receiving gifts from your guests that either you don’t need, you don’t want or that are simply not to your liking.  By providing your guests with a gift wish list, you are taking out all the guesswork that is normally associated with purchasing a gift.  For the guest, a diy gift registry makes purchasing a gift much simpler as they know each gift on the list has been specifically chosen by their host.

How much does diy gift registry cost?
Hosts pay a one off fee of $75 (including GST) to register their diy gift registry.  Payment is made via PayPal, a very safe and secure form of payment.  From then on, there is no more to pay.  There is no cost for guests to use this service.

How many gifts can I include on my diy gift registry?
The number of gifts you can include on your diy gift registry is unlimited.  diy gift registry caters for the most intimate of functions, to large scale events and everything in between!

How long is my diy gift registry active for?
Your diy gift registry can be active for as long as you need it to be.  As a general rule, hosts will activate their diy gift registry a week before invitations are sent out to their guests and close it the day after the function.  This is usually a 6-7 week period.

How do guests purchase a gift from diy gift registry?
Guests log into www.diygiftregistry.com.au and view the gift wish list their hosts have compiled.  They then choose a gift off the list, purchase it from the relevant store at their convenience and bring it along to the function.  For further information, please refer to ‘How does diy gift registry work for guests?’

How do guests know which gifts are available to purchase?
Once a gift has been chosen and purchased by another guest, the ‘Select Gift’ option is removed.  This gift can no longer be purchased by another guest.  This is to ensure that the same gift isn’t purchased by more than one guest.

Will the host know which gift each guest has purchased?
As a help to the hosts for when they are writing their thank you cards, they are emailed a list informing them of which of their guests purchased each of the gifts they received.   This occurs one week after the function.

Will my personal details be secure?
diy gift registry abides by the Privacy Act (1988).  This ensures all personal details collected remain confidential and are used only for the purposes of diy gift registry.
